WHILE Scotland's European adventure in Germany hasn't got off to the best of starts, footballing pupils at Largs Academy have enjoyed rather more success in 'overseas' competition.

The Largs youngsters, though, didn't have quite as far to travel as Steve Clarke's squad - with their trip to a multi-school tournament at Rothesay Academy ending in victory for both the boys' and girls' teams.

A school spokesperson said: "Winners of the Jane Ross and Craig Murray trophies  were Largs Academy - well done to the school coaches and of course, the players.
"A big thanks to Rothesay PE department for hosting us."

The girls' trophy is named after Scotland women's international Jane Ross, who was born and raised on the island and is a former Rothesay Academy pupil.

She started her senior career with Glasgow City in 2006, scoring 104 goals in 118 appearances and helping the club to six consecutive SWPL titles and the last 16 of the 2011/12 Champions League.

The 34-year-old went on to play for Vittsjo GIK in Sweden, Manchester City, West Ham United and Manchester United before signing for Rangers in 2021.

She's also played 147 times for Scotland, scoring 62 goals along the way.

The boys' trophy is named in memory of a young Rangers fan from Bute who died after contracting a brain infection in 2018, having battled a heart condition for most of his life.
