Largs Thistle 2 Broomhill 1

Thistle overcame a slow start to put on a good showing in some rare July sunshine and beat Scottish Lowland League side Broomhill.

The visitors were fastest out the traps and even during kick-off they were stringing together some dangerous passes and stretching Largs

And it was a quick intercepton by Chris Mahon which resulted in him rounding the outrushing Joe Wilton in the Largs goal to finish into an empty net.

It was a shock to the system for Stuart Davidson's side so early in the game but they managed to soon settle down and create some dangerous chances.

A high ball from Blair Devine on the left found Jamie Martin whose audacious overhead kick was blocked by a defender.

Largs had another good chance to break through as Martin was blocked by a defender and David McGrath's follow up shot rebounded off keeper Barr's knee and then cleared to safety.

Thistle scored a superb equaliser as David Ramsay cleverly spotted an opening during a good Thistle attack and chipped the keeper from 25 yards on 20 minutes.

And it got even better four minutes later for Thistle as they turned the game on its head with Devine breaking on the left before  smashing home in style to make it 2-1

Lobban had a good chance to equalise after a cross to the far post but couldn't get his effort on target.

Thistle were very much in the ascendancy towards the break with more shots going flying over the bar and Devine nearly adding his second but his powerful half volley was again well blocked by Barr in the Broomhil goal.

Overall, an encouraging showing from Largs after a tricky start.
