LARGS Thistle overcame Scottish Lowland League side Broomhill thanks to two top quality first half strikes, with the 2-1 win making it three pre-season friendly victories in a row on Saturday.

Manager Stuart Davidson decided to change things about with last season's top scorer Will Sewell not featuring in the starting line-up.

The visitors were fastest out the traps and put together a string of good passes straight from the kick-off which put Largs immediately on the back foot.

And a quick interception by Chris Mahon saw him skip around the outrushing Joe Wilton in the Largs goal to finish into an empty net for the opening goal on three minutes

It was a shock to the system for Stuart Davidson's side so early in the game, but they managed to soon settle down and create some dangerous chances.

A high ball from Blair Devine on the left found Jamie Martin, whose audacious overhead kick was blocked by a defender and subsequently cleared.

Largs had another good chance to break through as Martin rifled in a close range effort which was blocked by a defender, and David McGrath's follow up shot rebounded off keeper Barr's knee and then cleared to safety.

Thistle scored a superb equaliser on 20 minutes when David Ramsay cleverly spotted an opening and chipped the Broomhill keeper from 25 yards.

And it got even better four minutes later for Thistle as they turned the game on its head with Devine breaking on the left before smashing home in style to make it 2-1.

Lobban had a good chance to equalise after a cross to the far post, but couldn't get his effort on target.

Thistle were very much in the ascendancy towards the break, with more shots going flying over the bar and Devine nearly adding his second, but his powerful half volley was again well blocked by Barr in the Broomhil goal.

The second half saw Broomhill managed to put up a better defensive showing than they did at the end of the first half as they restricted Largs to some long range efforts.

The visitors fashioned one dangerous opening down the right, with a cross flashing across the face of the Largs goal, but generally both defences were on top in the second half.

Cory Hughes had a free header quite far out at the left post but could not get his effort on target following a corner from the right.

He got a better connection with another opportunity but screwed narrowly wide.

Broomhill also launched a few good moves, with Wilton plucking the ball to safety from a free kick on the left, before doing superbly well to hold a fierce angled strike from the right as the visitors looked to salvage a late draw.

Deep in stoppage time, sub Sewell blazed through on the right, feinting past challenges, but his final shot was deflected away; it nearly fell to fellow substitute Ryan Deas, but he was unable to keep the ball in play.

Overall this was a bright and breezy workout for Largs against a decent level of opposition, with Thistle coming good after a sticky start and doing enough to see this one over the finishing line with a merited victory.
