ONE of Bute's top golfers mounted an island raid at Millport Golf Club on Saturday to take home the Cumbrae Cup.

Testing conditions made for tough scoring and some thrilling action as some of the area's best players did battle over 36 holes in the oldest and biggest competition on the Millport club calendar.

Bolton, a Rothesay Golf Club member, and Callum McKirdy of Bute Golf Club led the field after the morning round with both players posting superb scores of 69.

And while McKirdy couldn't quite keep that standard up in the afternoon, Bolton kept up his excellent form with a second round of 69 after lunch to get his hands on the prestigious trophy in the 75th playing of the tournament.

Past Millport captain Alex Haggerty presented the trophy to the winner.

The course was in great condition thanks to the continued hard work of the green staff David, Alan and Jonathan.

A Millport spokesperson said: "Well done to all who participated in the 2024 Cumbrae Cup and a huge thanks to sponsors Frasers Bar, Millport.

"Thanks to all who helped organise, especially Nettie and Sandra and the catering ream Matthew and Jamie."

Prize winners and sweep winners are pictured on the 18th green.
