Largs Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international...
It was a great 2-0 result for Largs against Drumchapel but not so good against Beith. I think that Largs on their day are a match for anyone but slightly off it they are suspect. Although I have had criticism for it I still believe Largs could do better.
I have no idea of the finances at the club but I think it’s time to push the boat out and get in a proven goalscorer. Will Sewell can’t do it all on his own and I don’t see replacements yet for Darryl Duffy and Scott Adam.
Yes Travis Stracey is signing but for me, although a boy with great potential, he will just be finding his feet in the top league.
Clydebank still setting the pace at the top with five wins out of five. Next up for Largs is Benburb who are looking for a new manager. On paper it looks a straightforward win for Largs.
The English Premier league is back with Man City looking to become the first side to win five consecutive Premier League titles.
I think Arsenal will be their biggest challenger but can they end their 21-year wait for a Premier League title. Can Liverpool get in on the act and also be a challenger under their new manager Arne Slot?
What about Newcastle can they do anything? Manchester United will hope to get back into contention after a such a disappointing show in the league last season which saw them finish eighth although they did win the FA Cup. What about Spurs, can Ange get them in the mix?
I have a sneaky feeling it could be Arsenal’s year.
Kilmarnock have qualified for the Conference League play-offs with a win over Tromso in Norway winning 1-0 in the second leg.
After last week’s draw at Rugby Park, Killie played at the most northern stadium in Europe knowing a win would be enough to see them through. Well done Killie another step nearer the group stages.
A few shock results in the Premier Sports Cup including Falkirk overcoming Hearts 2-0 while Spartans backed up their win over Livingston in the group stages by taking a Premier scalp in Ross County. Some exciting quarter finals to come, and Celtic v Falkirk will be interesting given John McGlynn's close connection with Celtic, and their strong start to the season.
