NATIONAL and regional squad athletes from North Ayrshire are to receive free or discounted leisure club membership with the launch of a new programme.
KA Leisure's new Talented Athlete Programme is designed to support and nurture athletes from the region who are competing at national and regional levels.
Speaking of its launch, two times Commonwealth Games Badminton star Eleanor O’Donnell said: “When I was younger, I had to travel a lot to train.
"Having anything local that can support you to get extra time in the gym or extra court time will really help you to progress further than all your opponents. It's a great opportunity from KA Leisure.”
The programme offers a range of benefits tailored to the needs of both national and regional squad athletes.
National squad athletes will receive a free KA Leisure membership, granting them access to gyms, swimming pools, and class programmes. They will also benefit from access to training facilities, starting from autumn or winter this year.
Regional squad athletes will enjoy a concessional rate membership, providing similar access to KA Leisure facilities.
Both national and regional athletes will have access to strength and conditioning classes, as well as workshops focused on nutrition, mindset, goal setting, and emotional intelligence.
Athletes can utilise Boditrax and pulse body composition tests to monitor their progress and optimize their training regimes.
The programme is open to athletes aged 14 and above who reside in North Ayrshire or are members of a North Ayrshire club. Applicants must be part of their national or regional squad and provide proof of selection from their respective governing bodies.
KA Leisure’s initiative is a significant step towards fostering local talent and providing young athletes with the resources they need to excel.
The programme not only aims to support athletes but also to celebrate their achievements and inspire the next generation of sports enthusiasts in North Ayrshire.
KA Leisure Director, Councillor Jim Montgomerie, said: “Our goal is to support, celebrate, and inspire our local athletes, helping them reach new heights in their sporting careers.”
