Largs Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international.

I did say on paper it looked like a straightforward win for Largs but the game is not played on paper.

The Bens, with their new management team in place for the game, I think will be happy with the point.

That point for Largs makes it nine points from six games which leaves them in eighth place. Should they be doing better?

Will Sewell again coming up with the goals. Up this week it’s Shotts at Barrfields. They are sitting in third from bottom with three points from five games with those three points coming from a 2-0 win at Benburb.

It looks like another game on paper Largs should win but, again, the game is not played on paper.

I see the SFA have published their report on the ‘Transition Phase’.  The report was completed by Andrew Gould (Chief Football Officer at Scottish FA) and Chris Docherty (Head of Men’s Elite Strategy at Scottish FA). Not names I have heard of but they do have good job titles.

The Transition Phase refers to players aged between 16 and 21 who have moved from an academy environment to a professional contract.

The report runs to 114 pages with lots of data and statistics. In total the report has documented 18 issues that restricts the growth of talent within the Scottish game. All valid issues I think however there is nothing new in the report.

A lot of the issues, no doubt, you have heard already from your fellow supporters at games. There are potential solutions documented for each issue but the big question is will any of those solutions be implemented?

Is there really an appetite for change? The report is available for all to see on the SFA website.

Can Killie turn around the two goal deficit this week against Copenhagen? It’s a big ask. Although they frustrated the Danes for most of the game in the first leg, two goals will be hard to get back but with a good crowd at Rugby Park you never know.

I see that Derek McInnes questioned why Kilmarnock were given a four-hour away trip to Aberdeen inbetween two vital European ties.

The answer Derek is that is “Scottish Football”. Surely it would not have been too much to ask to give Killie time to prepare for the second leg. Killie winning, I am sure, would benefit the whole of Scottish football. I know teams have asked in the past and been refused but we should do everything we can to help our clubs progress in Europe.

Largs Thistle 35’s sponsored by Cullis Amusements play their last game of the season against Glenburn this Friday at Inverclyde with a 6.30pm kick off.
