Largs Colts 2012s produced a battling display but ultimately lost out narrowly, suffering a 5-3 home defeat at the hands of West Kilbride Colts.
Largs had the chance to take the lead inside the first minute when last week’s hat trick hero Jayden McCubbin robbed the West Kilbride ‘keeper but couldn’t capitalise.
In a very even first half, West Kilbride took the lead when a cross-cum-shot from the left swirled in the wind, hit the underside of the bar and dropped in.
Largs Colts almost hit back immediately when a lovely piece of interplay sent Cullin McLaughlin running onto an Elliot Cornell through ball but his early shot grazed the wrong side of the post.
But the Largs side did get an equaliser moments later with a move that was almost a carbon copy of that earlier chance.
This time Cullin McLaughlin made no mistake to make it 1-1. Within moments of the restart Largs found themselves behind for a second time when the West Kilbride winger snuck in finished well following some hesitancy in the home defence.
The second half remained a tight affair but West Kilbride extended their lead, latching onto a loose ball and poking home from the edge of the box.
Largs refused to accept they were beaten and hit back when Jayden McCubbin reacted fastest to chip home a delightful finish over two retreating defenders, after the West Kilbride ‘keeper spilled a ball at the edge of his box.
The Largs team were almost level moments later when an Arran Sullivan shot was tipped onto the face of the crossbar by the West Kilbride ‘keeper.
West Kilbride extended their lead again with a fine strike from distance that dipped viciously into the top corner leaving the Alex Semple in the Largs goal with no chance.
Again Largs fought back, Levi Scutt dispossessed a defender on the edge of the box and played in Cullin McLaughlin who finished well for his second goal of the game.
The equaliser however continued to elude Largs, West Kilbride sealed the points with a lobbed finish from the corner of the box with five minutes to go.
