A great result for Largs in the Scottish Cup 30 years after we won it back in 1994.
No mean feet winning against the team top of the East League. Well done. Let’s hope it’s the start of a long run in the cup.
Another cup tie this week against Bellshill who come into the game on the back of 4-2 win against Craigmark, their first win in the league after seven games. Bellshill play in the 2nd Division.
I was down in Leicester last weekend playing for Northern Ireland Veterans over 55’s team. It was the annual competition between Northern Ireland, England, Wales and Maccabi Great Britain.
Unfortunately my performance over the three games lasted for only a full 5 minutes due to a knee injury I got in the first game against England on Friday which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Against Maccabi on Saturday we also drew 2-2. It was Wales on Sunday but it was a 3-0 defeat. That win gave Wales the trophy as England lost 4-1 to Maccabi.
Largs playing in the Scottish Cup always brings back memories even 30 years after we won it. At the weekend, my roommate was Chris Kelly who played in goal for Glenafton the day we won it at Ibrox.
That’s Chris now part of the Northern Ireland Veterans squad too. He is still a good goalie, loved his company and the chats about old times.
Well what do you say about Scotland? Two defeats against Poland and Portugal but plaudits for the performances.
I would rather have a win than a performance. Something really needs to change or does it? Although it’s only one win in 14 games now is that Scotland’s level?
I must admit I was surprised at the team selection. I expected at least one if not two of the substitutes from the Poland game to start against Portugal.
This is the Nations League but the objective I guess is the qualify for the next World Cup so is it that what we measure the team on? I actually do think, though, that the goodwill Steve Clarke has is waning fast.
