THE first festival 'style' pickleball session held in Largs was declared a great success.
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, and a recent three hour session took place which gave lots of people the opportunity to play the sport.
Three hours of pickleball was played thanks to Largs Pickleball Club, and the club are doing the same again on Wednesday, October 2, from 6-9pm at Largs Academy.
It is played on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net, where players use paddles to hit a ball between them. It can be played as both singles and doubles.
The exciting US sport is continuing to grow momentum in Largs with a new box league having started up for participants.
In conjunction with KALeisure Largs Pickleball are holding three beginner sessions at Largs Academy. Please book beginners sessions or the next pickleball festival through www.largspickleball.org.
Cost for the beginners sessions is £5 per person for each session and includes the use of a paddle and balls.
It will cover rules, etiquette and scoring along with serving, dinking and skill techniques.
The rules and scoring system also mean that pickleball is much more accessible for people of all ages, making the sport a fantastic family activity for everyone to enjoy.
Games are usually played to 11 points, and you must win by two clear points.
The main strokes used include underarm serve, underarm drop-shot (also called third-shot drop), volley, dink, lob, ground-stroke and smash.
The first inaugural meeting of the Largs Pickleball Club took place earlier this month at Halkshill Bowling Club.
