Largs Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international...

Another good result for Largs, a proper good result. Winning 3-1 against the Talbot and always on top. Talbot fans also being very complimentary of the team and performance. Has this team come of age? Now sitting fourth in the table with 15 points after eight games. Next up it’s Glenafton away who have their new manager, ex Irvine Meadow player Paul Paton, in place. They are sitting 11th place after seven games with seven points. This for me is a big test for Largs. Glenafton is a horrible place to go , might even be snowing down there . A big open park against a team with new manager bounce, it’s a big test. Good to see that the Will Sewell goal drought is over.

One score that stuck out for me this week was in the Scottish Junior Cup. Whirehills v Dundee North End finished 25-0 to Dundee, which leads me into the Champions League. It has started but is it a 'Champions League'? Looking at some of the scores it makes me wonder with Bayern winning 9-2 and Celtic winning 5-1. There are 36 clubs in total at the start of the competition, is this too many? I was looking forward to the new format but those scores just put me off. The competition in my opinion won’t really start until the knockout stages.

Anyone following the hearing into Manchester City's charges for alleged breaches of the Premier League's financial rules? It started last Monday and is expected to last around 10 weeks. The Premier League are claiming Man City breached the league's financial rules. It is being reported they face 115 charges and if found guilty could face financial penalties (don’t think that would bother them), be deducted points and even expelled from the league. It will be interesting what the findings are and what the punishment is if any. I am sure a lot of clubs are taking an interest.
