LARGS Thistle boss Stuart Davidson is pleased that a broad base of players have been scoring goals in recent games after notching an impressive ten goals in two games.

Red hot Largs were too hot to handle for Ayrshire giants Auchinleck as they blew them away 3-1 on Saturday to cement fourth position in the West of Scotland Premier Division.

It was also the club's second victory against Auchinleck in the calendar year at Barrfields.

The goals came from top scorer Will Sewell, who also bagged man of the match, Lewis Davidson and Blair Devine, to back up Thistle's impressive seven goal salvo without replay against Bellshill in the South of Scotland Cup the week before.

Davidson said: "We have goals in the team. Will might get the headlines when he is scoring but although he didn't score one himself against Bellshill I still felt he put in a good shift for the team and did as well as he had done in the games he scored."

Davidson, who formerly played for Talbot and scored the winner for Auchinleck in the Scottish Junior Cup final in 2009 against Clydebank, treated Saturday as if it was "any other game" despite his obvious ties, and the imperative was winning all three points.

He said: "Talbot are a good side and they made it hard for us but we are in a good place.

We've bounce back well after the disappointment of the Beith and Benburb results by winning and scoring lots of goals. That seems to have boosted the confidence of the boys."

Looking back at the Bellshill victory, Davidson said: "I was very satisfied with a good professional performance, we had a clean sheet and scored some good goals, so I was very happy.

"We had a lot of possession by retaining the ball well. We used the width of the pitch and got the ball into the box, with boys running to take advantage of those crosses.

"We limited them to taking a few chances. It can be easy against a side from two divisions below you to think it is going to be straight forward, but the boys did the right things to win the game.

"I knew Bellshill would put up a fight and they did just that. It wasn't easy and I think we had to play well to score the goals we did; it wasn't as simple as the scoreline suggested and we had to earn it."

Thistle are competing well on a number of fronts including the Scottish Cup following the club's 2-0 win over high-flying East Premier League cracks Sauchie, and have been rewarded with a third round tie against Caledonian Braves, formerly Rossvale, who defeated Arbroath Vics 7-0 on Saturday, to be played at Barrfields Park on Saturday, October 19.
