Largs Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international.

Well it’s Gartcairn away this week for Largs. If they get beat they lose their second top spot in the league.

Despite their recent good form, Gartcairn were beaten at home last week by Arthurlie albeit on penalties. That result for me was the result of the week.

Largs, I feel, will need to be at their best. Gartcairn is a horrible place to go both for a spectator and player. If Largs come away with a victory it will have been well earned. A victory and it could be a top of the table clash with Clydebank at Barrfields on November 9. That would be a game to see.

Next mid week Largs play East Kilbride another really hard game with East Kilbride sitting 2nd top of the Lowland League. That will be a big test for the team.

One thing though I don’t get why this game is mid week. I guess Largs agreed to the fixture but I don’t see any advantage to Largs unless it’s a Sky TV fixture. It’s a long way and an awkward place to get to at peak traffic time for both supporters and players.

It was Medda Park for me on Saturday to watch the Irvine Meadow v Renfrew Scottish Cup third round tie. I picked this game thinking it would be a tight competitive game. Both teams in the same division, however Renfrew, sitting eight places above Irvine Meadow, went into the game as favourites.

I thought though maybe “The Medda “ would up their game for this cup tie and make a game of it. I was proved right, they did up their game and they blew Renfrew away in the first half going in at the break 4-0 up but it could have easily been more. Renfrew were really poor, they just never turned up.

The Medda played some good football with ex Largs player George Sewell being part of a solid defence with their centre half Dean Currie the man of the match in my opinion.

Scotland drawing 0-0 with Portugal is being lauded as a victory. Yes, it’s an improvement on the recent results but a draw is not a victory. It was a battling display which sets Scotland up well for their last two games in the group after the harsh last minute VAR decision in Croatia went against us.

And what an amazing comeback from Aberdeen at Parkhead at the weekend from two goals down, in front of former boss Sir Alex Ferguson who must have left impressed.

Jimmy Thelin has worked wonders at Pittodrie, and it was a superb fightback from his side, who are very much a breath of fresh air in the Scottish Premiership.
