Largs Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international.

A good point for Largs Thistle away from home in their 4-4 draw with Gartcairn. It would have been nice to get all three but one point keeps that league run going and keeps them in second spot. Well done. Good to see Will Sewell back amongst the goals.

It was Déjà vu for me on Saturday back at Medda Park for the Irvine Meadow v Civil Service Strollers match in the second round of the Scottish Cup.

Cilvil Service Strollers are sitting in eighth place in the Lowland League and I would have expected a better showing from them against a team two divisions below them.

The game ended 3-0 to The Medda in what was a comfortable win.

For me it begs the question of the standard in the Lowland League; on that showing I am not impressed. Let’s see how Largs perform against East Kilbride.

After their win Irvine Meadow play Stenhousemuir in the third round at Medda Park.

There were also Champions League fixtures this week and after me saying last week you don’t celebrate a draw I can understand why Celtic fans are celebrating.

After that 7-1 defeat by Dortmund I guess I understand why they did. A few odd results in the Champions League though, Real Madrid beat Dortmund 5-2, Barcelona beating Bayern 4-1, two score lines that were odd to me.

Currently with the new format there are three English teams sitting in positions one, two and three: Aston Villa, Man City and Liverpool. The top eight go straight through to the knockout stages. Celtic with their four points are sitting in 20th position, ninth to 24th go to play-offs with the bottom 12 being eliminated from the competition.

What about VAR in the Dundee v St Johnstone game taking seven minutes to confirm the winning goal. A clear and obvious error taking seven minutes! I guess it wasn’t clear and obvious.

The shock score in Europe over the weekend was Real Madrid being turned over 4-0 at home by Barcelona in the big derby ending Madrid's long unbeaten league run.

It was a stunning second half showing from Barca who could have indeed scored more, and a seal of approval for the Barcelona youth policy with six players aged 22 or younger in their side.
