LARGS Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international...

Largs v Clydebank was a good game for the supporters I thought. A good - dare I say it - old fashioned junior game with two teams going at it.

If that had been played in the SPFL I am sure more would have been booked and ordered off. Clydebank were a strong physical team with no lack of skill, however, Largs matched them in all departments.

After the ordering off of Clydebank’s Niven after 14 minutes, you would have thought Largs would go on to dominate which to a certain extent they did. Clydebank though, knuckled  down and kept themselves in the game during the first half.

I thought Largs had the better of the first half and maybe had a few half chances. Second half I felt it was equal and you would not have thought Clydebank for most of that half were a man down.

Scotland’s woman’s team are now two games away from qualification for next year's European finals in Switzerland.

After beating off Hungary in two games last month, the second round of playoff games will be against Finland later this month. The first leg will take place on Friday, November 29. Let’s hope they get through.

I do though wonder if we really promote the woman’s game after Rangers v Motherwell in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup took place on Saturday with a kick off time of 7.45pm.

Come on, a game at 7.45pm on a Saturday in winter? How can that be a way of pulling in the fans? Rangers won the tie 8-1.

Anyone read the article about the Scots Atalanta supporter who was the only away fan at their recent game with Napoli?

After a fan ban imposed by the local government, he was the only supporter cheering his team on. Anyone with a Lombardy postcode was banned from buying a ticket.

This guy is from Edinburgh. I wonder how much noise he made in the ground but he went home happy with Atalanta winning 3-0. What an experience for him.

I see one of my Largs team mates Andy Elliot was strutting his stuff in a walking football competition in Spain.

His team Pollok United cleaned up, winning all the trophies on offer. Maybe the Largs walking football team will be making an offer to bring him home.
