LARGS Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international.

Scotland got a much needed victory against Croatia. The performance wasn’t great but the result was. Ben Doak really added a sparkle to the team and it was good to see Tommy Conway also getting a start.

There were lots of plaudits for recent performances but not results but I would take result over performance. I suppose Scotland got a bit of luck with Croatia getting a man sent off but as we saw in last week's Largs v Clydebank game it might not make a difference. After the Poland game it will be clear what the next challenges are for Scotland.

I need to mention Craig Gordon after his disappointment of not being at the Euros; he certainly has come back strong and is a real leader. It would have been easy for him to give up but no, he is back as Hearts' and Scotland’s number one.

In the WoSFL Premier there was only one game played which was Darvel v Johnstone Burgh and it ended 1-1. This allowed Johnstone Burgh in second place to stretch their lead on Largs to two points but Largs have played one less game.

Next up for Largs is Dundee East Craigie in the Scottish. I don’t remember Largs ever playing East Craigie, however, it looks like Largs are favourites to progress.

Trips through to the east though are never easy regardless of who you play.

My experience was that refs always leaned towards the home side and unless you do your homework on the team you’re playing it really is a trip into the unknown.

A victory though and the bus trip home is brilliant. I have had some good journeys back with Taffy Dicks buying the fish suppers.

Greenock Morton got a much needed result with an exciting 3-2 win at in-form Raith Rovers on Saturday. It just shows you what a thrilling and unpredictable league the Championship is.

On-loan Motherwell striker, Serb Filip Stuparevic weighed in with two quality goals in the first half, and following a second half comeback from Raith, Michael Garrity popped up with the injury time winner.

In my role as director of Morton Club Together I have been invited to Inverclyde Council's civic reception for Morton's 150th anniversary on Wednesday.
