THE Largs Pickleball Club served up its first West of Scotland championship on Wednesday night with teams joining from as far as Lanarkshire.
It is the first of a series of tournaments hosted by the North Ayrshire club.
The Autumn Championship (Open) included a total of 16 teams playing at Largs Academy with competitors coming from Ayr, Prestwick, Fairlie, West Kilbride, Greenock, Hamilton and Largs.
A Largs Pickleball spokesperson said: "What a night! The standard was exceptionally high, but everyone agreed it was a lot of fun. Spirits were not dampened by the cold, snow and road works!"
The winners were Ryan Gormley and Ronan Fox and the runners-up were Stephanie Crawford and Claire Cannon, who were both pictured with Largs chairperson Jocelyn Stirrat.
The exciting US sport of pickleball is growing momentum in the town after only launching officially for the first time earlier this year, and now has box leagues and regular festival nights with three hours play at a time.
A WhatsApp community group for local pickleball enthusiasts has started with 71 members, and the hunt is now on for new players of all standards and ages.
Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in America and is fast establishing a foothold in Scotland, with a number of ex-tennis players around the world, including Andre Agassi, Andi Roddick and Maria Sharapova, giving it a shot.
The game uses elements of racket skills from tennis, squash, badminton, and table tennis.
