THIS weekend was a tough time for fans of the West of Scotland Football League (WoSFL).
As Ayrshire was battered by the weather, the fixture card on Saturday, November 23 was a complete write off - with every game postponed as a result of the conditions.
With no results from league matches, or the Scottish Junior Cup, as scheduled - this provides an opportunity to take a look at how local sides have been performing so far this season.
In the Premier Division, Clydebank are currently the team to catch. Having played nine games - the least of anyone in the league - eight wins and one draw has the Bankies well clear in top spot.
With other sides struggling to match their consistency, even at this early stage, Gordon Moffat's side look like they will be hard to catch.
Looking at the Ayrshire charge, closest to top spot are currently Largs Thistle who sit in third place, five points off Clydebank having played two matches more.
Stuart Davidson's side have shown great form this season, losing only once, but five draws from 11 matches could be what ultimately puts the brakes on their title run.
In fifth place, only one point behind Thistle having played one game less, is Troon FC - who have been a surprise package so far this season.
Jimmy Kirkwood's side have been a tough nut to crack so far this campaign and will be hoping to maintain their form into the new year.
The next Ayrshire side in the standings are Beith Juniors - winners of the Premier Division in the last two seasons.
Chris Strain's side have shown some inconsistencies so far this season, losing four and drawing three of their 11 matches so far.
Ten points off top spot, they face a tough task in their efforts to earn a third straight title - but are never a side content to be written off.
Just below the Mighty, in ninth, are Auchinleck Talbot - another side who have only played nine league fixtures so far.
Talbot have been tough to beat, losing just once, but five draws so far mean their points tally is well off the current title pace.
Staying in East Ayrshire, Glenafton Athletic sit in 11th place, five points clear of the drop zone.
The New Cumnock side got off to a flying start this season before going a little off the rails.
They have since recovered to find their feet once more and will hope to be looking up rather than down as we enter the back end of 2024.
Just below in 12th is Cumnock, who have played just nine league games so far.
Despite some disappointing cup exits, Stephen Swift's side have navigated injury nightmares to remain four points clear of the relegation places.
With a small break in fixtures, they will be looking to get key players back and climb the standings in the coming months.
In the relegation zone, two East Ayrshire sides find themselves under threat.
Hurlford United have won just once in 11 games so far this season and will need to turn around their fortunes to secure another year in the top league.
Darvel currently prop up the table, sitting in last position without a win so far this season.
Four draws and five losses, coupled with a three point deduction, means Michael Oliver's side have just one point to their name and sit eight points back of safety at present.
Into the First Division, and Arthurlie currently lead the way following their relegation last season.
With just one loss from 11 games so far, they seem to be the only side who are comfortable within the promotion places.
The league is tightly packed behind them, with Maybole Juniors leading the Ayrshire charge at present.
In fifth place, they are just three points outside the top three spots and will be aiming to keep their momentum going into the second half of the season.
Next in the standings is Kilwinning Rangers, who are seven points behind the promotion places but with games in hand.
Having lost just twice in 11 matches, with five draws and four wins, the Buffs could be looking up should they maintain their consistency into the new year.
Just behind, on the same points tally, is Ardrossan Winton Rovers - who have found form in recent weeks.
After a spell away, they have returned to their own home ground and will hope this provides a platform for a push up the table.
Completing an Ayrshire trio in mid-table is Kilbirnie Ladeside, who have drawn nearly half of their 13 matches so far this season.
Despite being nine points from the top three at present, if Colin Spence's side can turn their draws into wins they could be a force to be reckoned with in the second half of the campaign.
The last Ayrshire side in the standings are Irvine Meadow, who currently sit in third last and the relegation places.
However, with a number of good cup runs this season - Meadow have played the fewest games in the division.
Though their form has been far from ideal, if cup showings can translate into league performances - there is no reason why they cannot begin to rise up the standings.
In the Second Division, it is an Ayrshire side who lead the way in the form of Muirkirk Juniors.
A near flawless start to the season has the East Ayrshire outfit one point clear of second placed Neilston - who they face this weekend.
Looking at the bigger picture, they are six points inside the promotion places and, if they show the same consistency in the second half of the campaign, could have a promotion to celebrate in 2025.
Hoping to join them will be Whitletts Victoria, who are just one point outside the top three.
After a flying start, the South Ayrshire side lost to the top two teams - but will be hoping to put that behind them to rise back into the top spots themselves.
Further down the league, Bonnyton Thistle have seen their form pick up greatly in recent weeks.
After battling down the wrong end of the table, three straight wins have brough Thistle up to tenth and three points clear of the drop zone at present.
However, in last place, Craigmark Burntonians face an uphill battle to claw their way to safety.
One win in 12 matches, having lost all other games, mean Craigmark are eight points from safety and will need a remarkable turn around to keep their spot in the Second Division.
In the Third Division, unbeaten Thorn Athletic lead the way and look comfortable in doing so at present.
However, the table below is as tightly packed as could be - with every other team within touching distance of each other.
Ardeer Thistle are top of the Ayrshire pack at the minute, in fourth place and just two points outside the promotion places.
Consistency will be their target moving forward having won consecutive league matches just once this season.
If Sean Kenney's side can find their stride they are well poised for a promotion charge.
Next up is Dalry Thistle and Lugar Boswell Thistle - who sit in eighth and ninth place respectively.
With identical points tallies, only one goal separates the sides in the standings.
Despite being behind in the promotion battle just now, all it will take is a good run and suddenly both could be right in amongst it - showing just how tight the table is.
Dropping further down we find the final two Ayrshire sides in the league.
Both Girvan and Irvine Victoria sit on nine points at present, two points away from safety in the relegation zone.
The pair need to see an uptick in form moving into the second half of the campaign to secure survival for next season.
Finally, in the Fourth Division, a duo of local sides have their sights set on promotion.
Kello Rovers are best placed at present, just one point outside the promotion places in what is a closely contested top half of the table.
Knightswood are well clear in top position, but the rest of the promotion places are there for the taking.
Hoping to claim one as well is Eglinton FC - who are in seventh at present and six points off of the top three.
The Kilwinning side may seem well back at the moment, but a consistent run will bring them well into the reckoning for promotion.
Finally, Saltcoats Victoria complete the Ayrshire sides competing in the WoSFL this season.
Currently in 12th place, this season has been a vast improvement at Campbell Park.
Though out of the running for promotion, their current total of 10 points is just four off what the Vics earned last season.
With 19 matches remaining, they will hope to surpass that total soon and show they are once again not a side who can be taken lightly.
