LARGS Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international.
Scotland will face Greece in the UEFA Nations League Group play-off next March.
The two-legged tie, with the first game in Greece on Thursday, 20 March and the return at Hampden on Sunday, 23 March.
The winner will have a place in the top tier of the Nations League in 2026.
In the recent campaign Greece beat Ireland home and away, Finland home and away and beat 2-1 England at Wembley. The only game they lost was a 3-0 defeat to England in Athens. It’s not going to be easy against Greece.
No West of Scotland games on this week as all games were cancelled by the league due to the bad weather.
I see Troon were disappointed as their park was perfect to play on I think it was good though that perhaps the powers at be thought about the fans.
Should Largs get through their fourth round tie in the Scottish against Dundee East Craigie they will face either Montrose Roselea or Beith in the fifth round. Beith have been on poor form lately and Largs will be hungry to repeat their cup success at Bellesdale Park when they won 4-3 thanks to an amazing George Sewell strike, and a late winner from David Ramsay.
What about that Tottenham score v Man City, that gave me a buzz. Watching that performance just makes you want to play football. You just want to go in as underdogs and come out winners.
That’s a great feeling. Great interviews from Ange and Pep after the game. Five defeats in a row for Man City with three of them in the league and two of those five against Spurs. I don’t think anyone saw that coming.
At the start of the season I had an inkling for Arsenal as winners but if Liverpool beat Man City it’s theirs to lose. That 3-2 win against Southampton put them eight points ahead, would 11 ahead of Man City just give them the title.
On another sport, I have got to mention Andy Murray announcing he will be the coach of Novak Djokovic for the Australian Open. Two great rivals now in it together. That is some team.
