Troon FC 2012s 3 Largs Colts 2012s 0
LARGS Colts travelled south in hope of returning to winning ways after a couple of difficult results but endured further disappointment at Marr Playing Fields against Troon FC.
The game was an even contest throughout with lady luck and the elements being the difference between the teams.
Both played a huge part in Troon’s freakish opening goal. There looked to be no danger when a long hopeful punt from inside the Troon half carried in the wind but as Alex Semple in the Largs goal came to clear, he misjudged the bounce and it rolled agonisingly into an unguarded net.
It was 2-0 nine minutes later when the Troon centre forward finished well, lobbing the advancing Semple after running on to a neat through ball.
The third goal was almost as bizarre as the opener when a hopeful freekick into the box was touched on and nudged into the net from almost on the goal line. The Largs defence stopped expecting the referee to blow for offside and when no whistle was forthcoming, even the Troon players looked surprised when the goal was given.
The second half played out largely without incident or with either keeper being tested. Despite having the wind at their backs Largs struggled to break down a physical and stubborn Troon defence on a pitch where the ball seemed to pick up speed as it rolled.
