LARGS Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international...
Wow! That’s a statement 7-0 away from home in the Scottish. A great result for Largs and sets up a great fifth round tie against Beith. Beat Beith and you’re really doing it the hard way. Great to see Will Sewell scoring a hat trick.
In the WoSFL Largs are now sitting in 4th place with Troon jumping above them after their win at the weekend against Auchinleck Talbot.
Largs take on Troon in their next league game but before then they have East Kilbride Thistle to play in the West and then that Beith game.
A busy few weeks of crucial games. Just how you want it to be. Keep the good feel factor and the momentum going. Every player at the moment must be bursting to get a starting place . It looks all good down Barrfields.
Elsewhere in the league Gartcairn have deducted 15 points and drop to second bottom with Darvel being deducted three points and they are now bottom. According to the league Gartcairn fielded an ineligible player in five of their games. Gartcairn seem to be blaming the new SFA IT system known as Comet. I must admit I have heard numerous clubs complaining about Comet, not just those in the lower leagues but up to SFL Championship level. I believe sometime ago I mentioned there were far too many incidents of clubs having problems with registrations and said at that time either the clubs have not been trained properly on the system or the system itself is flawed. I wonder how far Gartcairn will take this.
It’s congratulations to Clydebank who are into the fourth round of the “Big” Scottish after their win against Buckie with former Thistle striker Nicky Little notching a double. Irvine Meadow crashed out 5-0 at home to Stenhousemuir. I know the Medda thought they were in with a chance too but they were well beaten.
Scotland Women’s National Team played Finland at Easter Road in the first leg of their European Championships play-off final. It finished 0-0. So Scotland still have it all to play for and a place in the finals is there for the taking if they can get the job done in Finland next week. In the English Premiership Man City go 11 points behind Liverpool and remarkably drop to fifth place.
I looked a comfortable win for Liverpool. The man of the match was Mo Salah and if it’s true Liverpool have not offered him a contract then they must have someone special lined up to replace him.
And it was a good result for Largs Thistle 2008’s beating Irvine Meadow 4-1. Well done boys.
