A dead whale has washed up on Stevenson beach in North Ayrshire.
The mammal was spotted earlier today by passers-by, and the local coastguard were alerted to the situation.
North Ayrshire Council is now aware of the stranding, and is urging locals to stay away from the area.
A spokesperson said: "We have been made aware that a minke whale carcass has washed up on Stevenston beach.
"The Council is responsible for the removal and disposal of whales under 25 feet long and plans are underway to arrange this as soon as possible.
"Due to the condition of the carcass, the public are advised to stay away from the area surrounding it."
